Dr. Penny Corkum

Principal Investigator

Dr. Penny Corkum is a Registered Psychologist and Professor in the Clinical Psychology Program with the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University, with cross-appointments in the Department of Psychiatry. Her clinical practice, research, and teaching are in the area of child psychopathology. Dr. Corkum has a particular interest in Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and sleep problems in elementary school-aged children. Dr. Corkum is the Director of Research and Training at the ADHD Clinic at the Colchester Regional Hospital, and Scientific Staff at the IWK Health Centre.

Dr. Christine Chambers

Dr. Christine Chambers is the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Children’s Pain and Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychology & Neuroscience (with cross-appointments in Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine and Psychiatry) at Dalhousie University. Her research lab is based in the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers on the role of developmental, psychological, and social influences on children’s pain, with a current research focus on the role of families in pediatric pain and social media for health knowledge mobilization. Her work spans knowledge generation (e.g., original studies), knowledge synthesis (e.g., systematic review, guidelines), and knowledge translation (e.g., policy, public outreach).

Dr. Roger Godbout

Co-Investigator

Dr. Roger Godbout is a Clinical Psychologist, Behavioural Neuroscientist and Professor of Psychiatry at the Université de Montréal. His research interests are centered on sleep and mental health, including the impact of poor sleep on daytime functioning in children. Dr. Godbout has over 100 published articles and has delivered over 200 conference presentations. He's interested in sharing knowledge about sleep issues and solutions. Dr. Godbout is based at the Hôpital Rivière-des-Prairies in Montréal where he leads the Sleep Disorders Clinic for Children and Adolescents.

Dr. Reut Gruber

Co-Investigator

Dr. Gruber is a clinical child psychologist and an expert in pediatric sleep. She is an Associate Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University, as well as the director of the Attention, Behavior and Sleep Lab at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute / McGill University. She is a clinical scientist, educator, and practitioner who is the recipient of grants from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), NSERC, and FRSQ, American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation. She uses these funds to examine the mechanisms underlying the association between sleep and mental and physical health, and to use the knowledge gained from her research to develop evidence-based interventions to improve youth mental and physical health. Her research focuses on three themes as they relate to pediatric sleep: ADHD, academic performance, and obesity. Additionally, Dr. Gruber translates her research findings into tools for healthcare providers and educators, to promote healthy sleep in children and adolescents by creating evidence-based resources to optimize the care of children with sleep disorders.

Dr. Gruber assumes a variety of leadership roles in professional organizations and societies at both national and international levels. In addition, she won FRSQ Awards (Bourse de Chercheur-Boursier du FRSQ), the CIHR New Investigator Award. In recognition of Dr. Gruber's contributions to the development of this program, she was recently (2012) awarded the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) Award for Distinguished Contributions to Public or Community Service.

Dr. Wendy Hall

Dr. Wendy Hall is a Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing. Her research focuses on the transition to parenting, and infants' and young children's sleep. She examines the effects of behavioral sleep problems on infants and their parents and is developing interventions to promote healthy sleep. Her research aims to build parental capacity and link parental capacity to healthy child development. Dr. Hall is involved in sharing knowledge about sleep problems and solutions in a variety of settings.

Dr. Graham Reid

Co-Investigator

Dr. Graham Reid is clinical psychologist and an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Departments of Psychology and Family Medicine, and a cross-appointment in Paediatrics at Western University. Dr. Reid holds an appointment as a Scientist in the Children's Health and Therapeutics Program at the Children's Health Research Institute. His research interests include accessing and using health and mental health services, and pediatric sleep problems.

Dr. Robyn Stremler

Dr. Robyn Stremler is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on sleep disturbance and fatigue in new families, sleep for hospitalized children and their parents and testing nursing interventions .Dr. Stremler works with the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) as an Adjunct Scientist in the Centre for Nursing and plans to focus her future research on expanding her maternal and infant sleep interventions to other populations, as well as developing interventions to improve sleep for hospitalized children and their parents.

Dr. Shelly Weiss

Dr. Weiss is a Neurologist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. Dr. Weiss's clinical work focuses primarily on epilepsy and sleep neurology. She has been involved in evaluation of children with sleep disorders for more than 20 years and currently directs the Neurology/Sleep Clinic at SickKids. Her research includes the management of childhood insomnia and the interaction between sleep and epilepsy in children.

Dr. Manisha Witmans

Dr. Manisha Witmans is a Respirologist specializing in the areas of pediatrics and respirology at the Synergy Wellness Centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta, an Adjunct Professor at Thompson Rivers University, and an Associate Clinical Professor with the Faculty of Medicine at University of Alberta. Dr. Witmans strives to develop and promote strategies to combat sleep problems, including public education and community-level engagement to promote the importance of sleep.
