I enjoy writing, photography and travel. I have the impression that the author wrote a travel journal on his knee, and it would not be surprising if not for the fact that neither he nor the editor did anything about it.
I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing the documentary of Palin in North Korea. Almost a quarter of the entire North Korean population are members of the armed forces.

This book is written in his voice, I could hear him in my head while I read it. The DPRK seems to be as a country, much like a show home is to a yet to be built housing estate. BIOGRAPHY & MEMOIR.

He talks about the rapprochement between the two Korean republics which led to the recent summit between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump. He clearly shows a refreshing honesty about the beautiful, hard-working, and patriotic people that we almost never get to see! It is very likely that, being brought up in a similar system as in North Korea, and reading high-level reports of Polish travelers, I cannot give credit for the ignorance, naivety and pomposity in Mr. Palin's book. Written beautifully and with interesting and helpful photos to aid in the visualisation of such an alien place.
The last time Palin was anywhere near North Korea was back in 1997 for yet another travel book and show Full Circle, but he only got a glimpse of North Korea from the South Korean side of the demilitarized zone. He makes mistakes and sticks his foot in it but this is part of what makes North Korea Journal a great read. Definitely enhanced my perception of the county. He gets to see pristine cities where the streets are almost empty of traffic, giant statues of past “Great Leaders”, and symbols and buildings commemorating the “Great Leaders”. A brief, insightful and engaging account of Palin’s jaunt with a film crew in the ‘Hermit State’ that is North Korea, or, the DPRK.

It is very embarrassing that most of the knowledge that Mr. Palin represented appeared to have been acquired on Wikipedia.
