First you trained as a page, then as a squire. yes but what s2 general's tend to do is bring bows which is a waste of money, when they could bring a extra melee or cav unit, especially vets. What is the current state of both games, and which would you recommend? I'd strongly disagree that bow units are pointless. Shogun2 vs fall of the samurai. And this is just my 2 cents of course, but I'd start with the original first before playing FOTS unless you are just dead set on using units with guns and arty.
And let me say DEATH TO THE IMPERIALIST. A full stack of line infantry (the basic infantry 1 tier above levy) will pretty much decimate any single ai stack all the time due to their tendency if mixing traditional units. And that is the way people become a warrior.

Now being a knight wasn't just standing around and fighting, there was fun and games to! The European swords were just long, they were sharp but the Japanese were sharper!

My only experience with TW is Empire and Rome 2 - I loved Empire with its massive line battles and cannon artillery along with the scale and grand campaign. Based on my own personal experiences i must say its easier to win with a Fots bushido general then a Shogun 2 avatar. These foot warriors carry large and heavy no-dachi swords and have a fearsome charge when in battle. The gun units besides the basic levy are really unbalanced against traditional units, with 3 line infantry you can easily hold against forces 5x your force in siege, even more ridiculous against traditional units. If you wanted to become a knight though it was a very hard task requiring years of training. © Valve Corporation. It needed to be fitted for each knight so he had armour that fit him, that way it didnt hamper them in battle. however i love cannons and fall of samurais have it. They also had to be nice to women.
