The story shows the reconciliation between Matilda and Scrooge. With age, Scrooge became wise and knowledgeable, and regularly puts this wisdom to good use when raising his nephews, specifically Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and has shown pride in their eagerness to learn the value of a dollar. Barks and current Scrooge writers have depicted Scrooge as being fluent in Arabic, Dutch, German, Mongolian, Spanish, Mayan, Bengali, Finnish, and various dialects of Chinese. When Don Rosa decided to include the tartan in his stories, he used the original coloring of green and orange. However, in his miserly nature, he immediately denies them, thus letting his butler kick the trio out. He also speaks with Aqua briefly and sells Lea and Isa sea-salt ice cream.

He does not marry and has no offspring of his own, although he does come to maintain close relationships with his nephew Donald Duck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie Duck. Scrooge is upset with the news but suggests that he and the others enjoy their migration in assumption that Donald will hate the cold and join them shortly. Scrooge won, only to learn that 85 years of disuse made the mansion so fragile that he accidentally destroyed it with a sneeze. Locksley's alliance with MacGregor would come to an end after Locksley was unable to "give to the poor" after having robbed the rich. Scrooge has the same role as in the original story; a miser enlisting Bob Cratchit (played by Mickey Mouse) but paying him poorly.
