All the interviews I have read with Mr. Jackson about his Star Wars experience have been positive (can't say the same for other actors).
I don't think this is actually up for debate. I would have much rather Mace Windu's lightsaber be the one Maz Kanata had in her basement in the ST. During his formative years as a Padawan, Mace Windu was devoted to the Jedi Order, but struggled to temper his frustrations with everything that contradicted his ideals. But then the question becomes where is he by the time of Return of the Jedi? Samuel L. Jackson is sure Mace Windu is still alive. you can't prove a negative, so don't go around answering questions like you can; particularly when other Jedi/Sith of lesser power have survived worse.
