One major problem for this is that it’s three short films and not one continuing story. This is literally the first anime movie that I will not be recommending to people. That may be a very reductive way of praising the talented people who worked on Flavours of Youth, but it just reminded me so much of his work and yet it had none of his many faults. I hate the way food is presented in animes because it looks so fuckin' tasty but then I realize the real-life dishes (at least some of them) are not as amazing as they build them up to be. Review by Darren Carver-Balsiger ★★★½ 10, So Flavours of Youth basically just feels like a Makoto Shinkai film but it's actually consistently good. someone get me a bowl of rice noodles asap and then i’ll watch this masterpiece on a loop, one star for the animation and another star for how good the food looked because that’s all i retained from this. Though reality may seem ever changing, unchangeable are the short-lived moments of one's childhood days.
