As in the games, Lothar is commander of Stormwind's military, and he personally leads a group of soldiers to investigate rumors of invading Orcs. It was reported that a horse spooked by a wind fan collapsed on Fimmel while performing one of his own stunts but he emerged unscathed. Its current whereabouts are unknown, but it is probably the sword wielded by Turalyon. Anduin Lothar is referenced in the story of the human campaign multiple times, but never actually appears in any missions until the thirteenth human mission, Assault on Blackrock Spire, where he is uncontrollable and is swiftly taken out by Horde forces. Lothar's eloquent pleas ultimately brought the human kingdoms together for an emergency council, where his friend Terenas' masterful politics created the Alliance of Lordaeron. He retrieved the Tome of Divinity and returned to Stormwind, safeguarding the book at Northshire Abbey. In the movie, Anduin Lothar is shown as King Llane's brother-in-law, brother to the queen, Lady Taria and uncle to the future King Varian Wrynn. The belt was claimed by Varian Wrynn, then known as the gladiator Lo'Gosh, when he was allowed access to that armory. Surprisingly, when this weapon was given a description in the Monster Guide, no connection to Anduin Lothar was made. When he came of age, he joined Stormwind’s military and quickly joined the ranks of the king’s guardsmen, eventually earning knighthood and a place in the Brotherhood of the Horse. Anduin did not live to see his beloved homeland freed from orc control and rebuilt, but a massive stone statue depicting Lothar in his last charge was built (by orcish prisoners of the Alliance no less) and still stands in the Burning Steppes, pointing defiantly towards Blackrock Spire.

Forged in the fire of battle, the brave knight Lothar has sacrificed everything to become defender of Azeroth. As the Horde ultimately ravaged the Kingdom of Azeroth and killed its advocate, King Llane, Lothar rallied his countrymen and charted their retreat across the Great Sea - and onto the shores of Lordaeron.

Anduin was born and raised in Stormwind. Because of his great skill in warfare and experience with orcs, and because the kings of the north were not comfortable placing their troops in the command of a rival nation, Lothar - a neutral party - was named the supreme commander of the Alliance forces. de:Anduin Lothar Both weapons' current whereabouts are unknown.
While the attackers were unknown, Lothar discovered that one person had been captured - a young mage, caught sneaking around within the walls of the barracks themselves. Lothar was killed at the foot of Blackrock Spire after a force of Alliance troops he personally commanded was ambushed by the Horde forces.

After many years of peace, Lothar was visiting King Magni Bronzebeard in Ironforge when he received word that one of the kingdom's garrisons had been attacked, and quickly returned to Stormwind.

The sword impressed Medivh and he dubbed it Quel'Zaram — Thalassian for "high blade".
